Suzan Grootscholten & Laurens van den Oever
We are a family that loves being close to nature. Over the years, life and travel have taken us from the Netherlands to different parts of the world, before eventually bringing us to the beautiful countryside around Valencia.
With a dream to develop a nature-based retreat, we discovered the forgotten valley called Cañada del Cura. We knew immediately: this is what we want to care for, and this is what we want to share.
Cura is Latin for care. That is exactly what we do here: care for the land, care for the old terraces, and care for the people who come to rest.
To help people reconnect with nature — and with themselves — through a unique experience in an exceptional natural place.
This short drone flight was filmed on one of our very first visits, in 2022. No houses yet, no food forest — just the quiet valley of Cañada del Cura: the old terraces among the pines, the olive trees, and that endless view towards the mountains. It is the landscape that made us stay — and everything we have built since follows its lines.
These are the things we care for here — and the things our guests tend to bring with them quite naturally: attention, serenity, and respect for the nature around them. The valley does the rest.
Silence and stillness are the rarest luxuries. At Cura they come standard.
We restore terraces, feed the soil and let the land grow stronger every year.
A place designed for attention: to your breath, your senses and the world around you.
Rooted in Godelleta, working with local people, products and traditions.

Cura runs on its own solar power and stored rainwater. Our food forest — an ecosystem designed on permaculture principles to imitate a natural forest while producing food — supplies vegetables and fruit for our guests.
We restore rather than replace: the age-old dry stone walls, the olive terraces and the native planting all stay, and grow better under our care. Guests who want to get their hands in the soil are always welcome to join.
